This blog here was actually created and intended for my Diploma in Interior Design at Singapore Polytechnic, when I was still in Year One (2008).

As of now, I've already passed my first year and this blog is therefore 'dead'. It is still here only for the sake of future references and reminissions.

InTech Wall Mockup...

After one of the major submissions last Friday, it is time to fulfill some of the unfinished business...

Yeap!

One of them is the Intech Wall Mockup.

And so, here is my design...

Just like the concept I had for the shophouse,

This feature wall is comprised of crossings and overlayings of components...

And at different viewing angles, you can see that the feature wall is actually slanted upwards.

This slant signifies my designer's upward progress in his AK-47 design, which initially was a failure...

Yeah... It may seem simple....

But what matters most is that it fits nicely into my design concept!

Final Model Construction...! Woah~!

After all the mockups and so much planning, draftings and sketchings, it is time to put them all into practical.

Yeah... Its time for the final construction!

And so, here it begins.....

Firstly (and the most importantly), is to build up the shell of the shophouse for all other components to fall in to.

And next, in accordance to the plans, I erected the party walls, as well as the other interior and structural parts.

So, after all the other processes were done (which I skipped in the blog), the shophouse is somewhat complete...

And why I said 'somewhat' is because...

Time has consumed me, and some parts of the design were incomplete!

And what's bad is that the model has been submitted...!

Damn~!!

I'm screwed ........

A Final Lecture For The Term (Year)

There was a lecture today, which probably would be the last one for the term and year.

It was basically on forms and space. And eventually, as an in-class excercise, we were told to cut and fold paper to create spatial qualities.

This what I've done, as part of the excercise. It may actually look like trash...

But upon closer observation and views from different angles,

It could actually be a space for a Park, Playground, Shopping Mall or even an Army Base!

Hahaa! ;D

Yeah...

That's basically all for today!

Moodbox II and Shophouse Mockups

It has been quite a long time since I last blogged about the progress for T4b.

All of these are prior to the hectic developments and modifications that I have been working on.

Since the completion of my first moodbox, a second one was on its way.
Further consultations and plannings finally resulted me to think for a whole new concept for moodbox 2.

It does obviously, looked different from the first one.

Basically, it is just pieces of boxes (or cuboids) systematically stacked, overlaid and slotted within each other.

And soon after that, I proceeded on with the first mockup model for the shophouse.

Thereafter, I wasn't really satisfied with the first results, due to the absence of 'daring-ness'.

And so, I went to draft for the 2nd Mockup to alter this absence.

In comparison to the first one, this 2nd mockup is now fitted with more slottings and overlayings of components.

In a way, I feel that this is much more interesting than the one I had made earlier on.

So, currently, I am now at this stage, and much more works are still pending to be done!

Machine Project Prototype...

Hey Hey...

After so long, I finally realised that I haven't post up the photos of the Machine Prototype my group has designed and constructed.

So, here they are...

I call it 'The Confusioner' .

Basically, this machine comprises of an eye goggle loaded with mirrors and an ear cup.

The goggle is supposed to confuse the eye, while the ear cup helps to enhance sound waves to the ears.

Here it is while in action...

Construction Of Moodbox I...

Amidst the holidays, and towards its end, I finally found the time to construct and finish up the moodbox.

I wonder if everyone else has finished it...

Anyway, after much planning and thinking, I went to get everything ready and proceeded to
draft out the production plan.

Then, comes the construction...

First to complete was the base platform for the box.

Then, the back wall.

Next, was the left panel.

And the right panel.

After the roof is done and all the attachments were ready, the moodbox was officially complete!

Final Waves Of Submissions And The Supposed Last Day Of School For Term 3...

Friday 28 November 2008,

Marks the last day of school for term 3!

As usual and always, it was interestingly hectic as all of us are doing the final waves of submissions for TOD, machine drawings and some other things...

All of this concluded the whole of the term which we have been busy with!

And to show it off, many started slacking and relaxed their way through....

Now, with the holidays coming, there are sure lots of things to do to prepare us for the final term of the year - Term 4.

And eventually, the end of our Year 1 in SP.

Machine Submissions and Final Year 1 Assignment Project!

The final submissions for the Machine project was finally due yesterday!

It was one of the most relieving submissions, as we still had lots to do after this.

So with one 'giant' down, it will be much easier to tackle all the other 'dwarves'...

However!

After those submissions, we were heavily bombarded and shocked with other assignments!

It was one of the worst, time-consuming, and heavy money-spending assignment projects that we will be embarking on!

It is a joint-module assignment project for the course, which will eventually conclude our year as first-year students...

Meaning, this last project will be stretched out all the way to Term 4 next year...

HooHoo~!

A Process Of Busy Weeks...

Design Studio for this week was kicked off with a single lecture on Monday on 'Ideas & Concepts' of Design.

This lecture could probably do some help in our current project involvement, which includes teamwork and lots of stress!

As of today (Wednesday), Design Studio is just a time for consultations and the completion of projects and assignments.

For the past few weeks, it was indeed rushy and busy for everyone...

Erh!!

Body Lecture & The Launch Of Yet ANOTHER Project!

Hey!

Today's Design Lecture is so cool!

It's about the Human Body...!

In this aspect, it is about the use of bodily parts for art and design!

After much blabbering and all, we were asked to construct something that can be associated to any part of our body, by using just a single wire.

And this what I made...

A wire ring and bracelet connected by the palm...

Hahaa!

And also.....

Guess what!!

Amidst the buzz and fuss of the shophouse project...

We were actually given a new set of Project today!

Oh Gosh ar~!!

This time round, we're supposed to design some sort of a mechanical machine...

Woah...~

Sounds chim eh....

But the most shocking thing is,

Many of us have yet to complete the previous assignments and projects...

And now, a n ew piece of burden was thrown on us!

Hahahaa!

But no matter what!

We will finish up all of these things!

Updates On The Shophouse Assignment...

On last Wednesday ( Nov 5 ), a group of us which consisted of 17 people, met up in the morning to start on our joint CADP-DS assignment on Shophouses.

When all members have gathered, we split up into 2 sections to search for a suitable shophouse location that we were assigned to.

The 1st section went to Chinatown, while the second section made their way to Haji Lane ( Before that was Holland Village ).

Me, following the second section, followed all the way through the rainy afternoons.

When the rain finally died down, we qucikly made our way to No. 51 Shophouse in Haji Lane.

Luckily for us, the shophouse we went to has almost all the things that we require for the assignment. - 1 Airwell, 2 Stories, No Rear Court

After about 1.5 hours of measuring, analysing and studying the building, we finally concluded the trip and called it a day for the measurements!

After all... It was indeed a fun and an educational trip for many of us that day!

A Shocking Blow of Assignments...!

Hi there!

Today,

Almost everyone in studio was shaken and shocked by the release of a new assignment which incorporates CADP and Design Studio together.

Simply put together,

'What Do You Get When You Pour Petrol To A Flame?

. . . . . . . . .

Of Course! You'll Get A Massive Fire And Serious Problems...!!

Woah~~!

Putting CADP and Design Studio together is definitely the worst case scenario of the term.

This time, we're supposed to go measure up some shophouse that was assigned to us!

Indeed, there were many difficulties and obstacles for now...
And I believe, we would get over this in the future,
and somehow, get things cleared out!

At this point of time, that is all that I can say...

Lets wait and see what will happen when all of us are together on the site location!

InTech Submissions...

It feels so fast at how things are going in school!

At one point of time, we just started school...

And now, we're on our first mass submission for the term.

After almost 2 weeks of hard drawings and measurings of human figures and stairs,

It was finally time to retire from it!

However, this is not the end,

As following to this, we knew there will be more to come...

Erh~!

So for now, let's enjoy the weekends,

While we can still call them 'The Weekends'....

After A Long Weekend...

After 3 off Days to clear up and catch up with the assignments for InTech, I finally managed to complete alomost all that is to be done!

And as today, it was consultation for our progress as well as brief reviews on our 40 photos assignments.

And as for those who're lagging behind, it was time to burn on with the previous assignments while waiting for their turn in the consultation.

Basically, that's all that has taken place today, from morning till afternoon!

Continuation Of InTech Excercises...

Just when the 32 Humanoid drawings were completed, we were presented with yet another two excercises, 3 & 4.

Both quite time-consuming and tedious to do...~

For excercise 3, we're supposed to identify and measure three different types of staircases, and then draw them out into different views (Plan & Sectional).

At this point of time, this was what I could accomplish - 'Dog-Leg stairs' and 'Straight stairs'.

And I shall continue with the 'Spiral stairs' after this.

They may look simple to produce.

But to attain precise accuracy, it's not that simple...

Nothing Much For Today...

Today was totally nothing... Much...

We only had consultations with the lecturers on our Humanoid drawings, to clarify things up.

Other then that, most of the time, I spent it to fruitfully complete as much drawings as I could.

And when the time is almost up, the third excercise for the week was launched.

InTech Week For Now...

Hey Hi!

Moving on from last week's photography workshop, week 2 & 3 of Semester 2 is now greeted by InTech, which has been incorporated with Design Studio for this 2 weeks.

As of today, we had a lecture mainly focused on Ergonomics & Anthropometrics.

What are these words?

Simply put together, they mean

- 'The study of Human comfort and reactions to a device'

&

- 'The Study of Human dynamics and proportions'

respectively.

In other words, Ergonomics is accounting for Human comforts,

and Anthropometrics is accounting for the measurements of the human body for a specific design.

Later on, we had a practical excercise.

It was quite simple as we're supposed to just illustrate various positions of stationary as well as moving human activities.

Here are some of the draft sketches at the point of time.

Pretty weird though...

Coz that was what we're told to do.

Last Day of Photography Workshop (For The Week) ...

Today marks the last day of the Photography Workshop we've been having for the whole week.

And since, most of the photography topics has been covered on the previous days,
Today was left for recap and critique sessions.

After collecting all of the assignment photos, we submitted them and then started pinning up Ann Siang Hill's photos and the Colour Collages.

These collages were indeed impressive and pleasant to look at,
Especially where every single pixel of it portrays many different photos...

So, overall conclusion,

This whole week has been fruitful and useful for the near future of us in Interior Design!

Second Last Day of Photography Workshop...

The Photography Workshop we're having is finally coming to an end soon!

And today's lecture is majored on Interior & Architectural Photography, as well as Post Processing of Photos.

Personally, I do realise that I've got an interest in Architectural and Object photos, and the lecture was indeed helpful.

Also, for the Post Processing lecture, being related to our CADP classes, it certainly proved its importance of existance.

It's like a magic wand which could magically improve and modify our raw photographs from the camera.

Therefore, I thought that the overall lectures for today were very useful and constructive...!

A Little Trip To Little India...

Hey!

For the photography excursion (15 Oct), The Whole lot of us went to Little India.

I was slightly late, but managed to catch up with the rest soon after.

Being the group leader for the Greenies (Green), I was briefed to lead them to our designated areas, further north of Little India.

However, within just 400 metres from our deployment zone, many of us has started roaming about freely, breaking into smaller cliques to snap some shots.

In the end, we didnt exactly get to go to the designated zone.

Despite just taking seven shots on my camera, I personally enjoyed this little outing as I've managed to capture many good shots of the area.

I crawled to a drain, weave through alleys and navigated through unknown places.

However, those good shots I took didn't really coincide with the theme in Little India though.

Photography Workshops...

Greetings my Comrades!

It's the second day we're having this Photography Workshop thingy...

Almost the same routine as yesterday,
Today started off with more lectures on Photograph Compostions.

I find this quite useful to start with, as it adds up more to the composition knowledge I already had.

Following to that, was another lecture on Studio Photography...

This was something I rarely tried before, due to the precision of lighting and such.
And hence, I find it rather troublesome as compared to outdoor photography.

Despite that, I still tried my best to configure and adapt to the different lighting situations.

Here are some of the first-time shots I took.

These shots were snapped only after a few trials and attempts...

As I said, Studio photography will be quite troublesome when you don't exactly get what you desired.

Nevertheless, I had a blast snapping the photos of my own model, as well as others'!

First Day of Term 3, Semester 2 !

Ok Ok!

As stated by the title,
This marks the new opening chapter of a whole new Term 3 in the whole new Semester 2...

In the first day itself, we had a Photography Workshop,
which I find interesting and very useful...

This could be due to the fact that my CCA is Photography,
and followed by my GEMS module - The Revealing Eye in Digital Photography.

Throughout the whole introductory lecture, I tried my best to focus, as the lecture helps to refresh and clarify the thoughts on photography.

Other than dry theories, there were practical sessions too...

In accordance to our given colour group, we were told to capture photos with elements of the colour related to our individual groups...

As I was in the Green group,
I captured these shots...

Yeah...~

Followed by this was a continuation of the lectures, which lasted till the end of the day!

Photography has been a new hobby for me since I stepped out of Secondary school...

Therefore, I'd like to gain more knowledge on these artistic hobby,
And would of course be looking forward to tomorrow!

DID Exhibition Setup...

HeLLo Evrybody!

Its 5 more days to the official start of Term 3, Semester 2 !

I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone again~!

Well anyway,

This post is about the DID exhibition setup which commenced on Monday, 6th October.

This whole thing goes all the way back to last Friday,

Where I was assigned the task to lead in the planning and design of the exhibition booth, which will consist of our Mega cube models which were done last term.

Using the skills of AutoCAD, the help of some lego cubes, measurements and some logic,

I finally came up with a brilliant idea!

This is how the whole exhibited models would look like eventually...

And today, the 7th October,

The production team finally managedto complete the whole booth setup with close accuracy with the plans I made.

And indeed, evrything looked awesome and the effort put in was worthwhile!

Hahahaa!

Last Day Of School for Term 2...! =DDD

Basically, today is the last day of school....

The only thing being done today is the submission of the Furniture Design Award (FDA) prototypes and the collection of previous projects...

Yeah...~

That's all...

And this was the idea I had on my furniture design,

incorporating an armchair, a table and a shelf on a whole connected platform.

Supposedly, this is a muti-functional furniture for both entertainment and study.

It does look weird...

Coz that is how it is supposed to be...!

URA Centre & Ann Siang Hill Photography Outing...

Hey!

Today was another interesting outing to the city area...

Basically, for the first part, we went to the URA Centre for a brief tour on Singapore's construction plans...

Despite being small, Singapore sure had lots of cool projects coming along, since her independence in 1965.

From shop houses to tall skyscrapers, Singapore has been through many architectural evolution...

In general, this short visit to the URA building is briefly informative and useful...

And in the second part of the outing was more on photography....!

This was interestingly cool as An Siang Hill is an interesting place to experience the many types of design landscapes...

The day we've been waiting for is finally here...!

Today was submission day.

As usually always, the studio was in chaotic panic...

The situation was undescribeable as models were seen everywhere and pieces of paper flung all over the studios...!

But it all began to tone down when everything gets more organised...

Smiles were seen on many of our faces as this final submission concludes the term hardwork and madness...! =DD

Nearing Submission Day ...

Hey there !

The Final Submission is finally coming in a few days' time....

So... Hold on there my coursemates...!

Many of us were really rushing hecticly....

Especially with the tiles and the models.

Actually, they are all simple tasks which is full of hassle and time-consuming...

However, for those who have completed their models, they've really done an interesting job I can say...! =D

Tessy Tiles Are Completed...!

This is a post for National Day...

While many of us are happily spending time with their buddies / boyfriends / girlfriends / Loved ones on Singapore's 43rd Birthday,

I'm all alone at home doing my work...

Kind of pathetic... =X

Hahaa!!

But at least, I've managed to finish up all my 16 tiles...

Though it was difficult to start with due to the tiles' smooth surface,

I eventually overcame it with my acrylic paint after 12 hours of perseverance and endurance...

At the end of the day. this was the result...

An Extended Long Busy Dizzy Day...!

As you know, these past few days has been really hectic...

However, it was nothing as compared to today and the days that are to come... -Especially when the submission day for the models are getting nearer...!

And so today, was submission day for 'Drawing Class' and 'Design Studio'...

And again, it was a chaotic scene in the studio as everyone rushed to file in their folios and arrange them properly...

And when the submission is done, it was really a huge load off our chests...

At the very least, we could move on and continue doing our models...

The next big thing... =_='

Furthermore, it was Free Access Day today...

A majority of us stayed back in the studio till night time, just so that we could get something done...

Looking at my progress, I really need to buck up yaww...! =X

A Very Busy Day Yet Again...

Today, I finally started doing quite alot of things...

Not only me, almost everyone did.

So, today's blog will be quite short...

Basically, I did some planning and touch ups on the wooden sticks,

And finally constructed the cube.

After everything for the day was done, we relaxed and chilled together...

A Slacky Day... ( For Me... ) =P

Today was a continuation to the model making...

It was rather a brief studio-work as most of us were busy in the workshop.

As for me, I just did some plannings for the materials of my project...

And will eventually do the technical work at home.

Basically, what I did in school today was very light and simple...

Nothing much though...

Model Mania and Madness...!!!

For me today, was a busy yet free.

This is because, for the mega cube, I've already formed the upper and lower frames.

That explains my freedom..

However, the busy part of this is to plan and think of what I'll be doing inside the mega cube.

Apart from that, I also helped to saw off timber, so that they don't have to go down to the already crowded workshop and do it.

And the rest of the day I spent to plan for my cube...

Till now, I'm still clueless of what to do...!! =X

Then, two other friends and me decided to go and buy some materials from Sungei Kadut in Kranji...

But then, we ran into a factory that has a mountainful pile of waste wood.

So, we thought we could grab some of it without even paying.

And indeed, it was true...!

It was so cool...!!!

We had an abundant supply of wood before our eyes....!!!

We took as many as we could and went home happily... =DDD

A CooL Relaxing Friday...!

Today's Design Studio lesson is abit different then usual...

Instead of the usual drawing and things like that, we started off by watching a movie...

It was a weird movie called 'Labyrinth' that eventually has a close relationship to our final term project...

Basically, A Labyrinth is like a maze...~~

So...!!~ When you compile the previous models and tessellations with the Labyrinth concept...

You get something...

You know it...!!

You'll get a tessy-like Labyrinth in model form...!

Yes Yes...

That's our dreadful project...!

I wonder how I am going to start...!

Hmm~ =_="

After the project briefing, everyone went to display their ZO Cards model and many resumed to watch the weird movie...!

Me on the other hand went to touch up on my models...

Developments on Models...!

Anyway, anyway...

Today, in studio was another continuation on the Model making...

I tried to improve on my existing ZO Cards model...

But, I'm not that satisfied with it though....

I am surely going to do another set of the same model...

As time went by,

The people in my studio were busy doing up their models too...

Some were pleasantly messy and some were creatively beautiful...!

And when I say messy, it doesnt mean 'Positively Ugly'...

It simply means that the model has weavings that looked messy from far.

But when studied carefully, it does tell a story...!! =D

Oh! And also, before the end of the lesson, there was a video screening and some briefings...

The video was about something... I guess about Design related things like Colour, Shape, Texture...

Not to say that I wasn't paying attention, it was actually the video itself....

The audibility wasn't very clear as the narrator's voice sounded funny...

So... Yeah...

I just viewed it...!

Models, Models and Models....!!

This Monday's Drawing class lecture marks the finale of the routine drawing lessons for the term.

If last week's lecture was about 1 point perspective, then today was on 2 point perspective.

Personally, I think that drawing 2 point perspectives are much simpler and less tedious then 1 point perspectives.

As a matter of fact, I could figure the drawing steps out just after a few attempts, though I drew it small.

Interesting...! =D

And some drew it beautifully...!

For design studio, was again model making...

I spent the time to touch up and modify on my existing models as they were insufficiently modelised.

In other words, it was not up to standard... =P

Hours later, I finally got it and was ready for the next level of model making...!

It's Friday yet again...!

However, it also marks the birth of our first handmade model works....

To start with, we're to construct cubes out of satay sticks.

Very simple....

Eventually, we had to incorporate part of our previous Tessellation designs into our cubes to form a 3D Model.

Wohaa...~

Sounds chim already...

Hmm~~...

But it's 'do-able' I guess.

At the very least, it warms us up for more models...!

This is not the worst though...

There's more to come...

I suppose so... =X

Another Simple-Going Day ....

Hey there...!

Today's events were almost similar to that of last Friday's...

I came to school, grabbed a table from the other studio,
and started pinning up my 'Pattern Tessellation'.

Then I proceeded to begin on the 'Colour Tessellation'.

This is by far, the most interesting and prettiest thing I've done in this Term.

Though incomplete at that point of time, I could visualise how it'd eventually turn out.

Looking at many of my friends' work, they sure had put in alot of effort to produce a beautiful artwork.

Besides drawing patterns and colouring the tessellation, we had to tone it up using shades of black --> Grey --> White.

Here's a good example of it. Look closely... O_O"

It sure looked nostalgic and...

Yeah...!!

And just before the class was over, there was a short lecture on 'Thinking & Creativity'.

Basically, it was an introduction lecture of how we could, should and must use our brain to process thinking.

Quoting from the lecture, there are 4 basic methods; - 'Analytical', 'Sequential', 'Interpersonal', 'Imaginative'...

For now, it seems to be deep in meaning...

But I guess, as time passes by, it'll all be clear...

The Mid Week of Term 2...

It's Week 4 now... - The mid week of term 2!

In less than 5 weeks, the holidays will commence again...! ;D

And today, similarly to last week, Drawing class was overtaken by another detailed lecture on one point perspective drawing, focusing mainly on renderings.

After that, we had to draw and render a perspective at a location of our choice in the school.

Everybody left the studio soon after, leaving just a handful of us in the studio.

I went to the room in between the studios and started drawing the glass cabinet.

When most of us returned to the studio an hour later, they brought many pleasant drawings.

It was indeed a fun drawing session.

In the later part of the class,

We just had to render and colour our 3 tessellations.

The Beginning....~

Today, was the start of the initiation of projects that are to come in the future.

We had a small lecture together with an activity to get us started on 'Tessellations'

I remember doing this cool drawings while I was Primary 6.

Back then, it was chicken feet and could be done easily.

However today, we were supposed to create a tessellation (aka Tessy) based on the cut frames of our Ontographies.

In started out well and easy in the first place, but as the tutorial proceeds, it gets more troublesome and complexed.

Eventually, we had to do up a Tessy on an A1 papers, using our own creations...

O Mannn....!!!! -_-!!!

Hope it'll turn out well though.... xD

A Hectic Monday... =X

Today, We did not have drawing classes as it was replaced with a lecture on 'Perspective Drawings' instead.

This was a very 'chim' topic as the projection drawing of a one-point perspective itself has lots of theories and many components that have to be adhered to.

Also, the drawing is very tedious due to the amount of accuracy required.

I didn't quite get it at the first time, but after numerous times of erasing and re-drawing, I finally think that I've got it... =P

In the second part of today's class, we were introduced to an artist named MC Escher through another set of lectures.

Soon after, with reference from one of his drawings, we were told to complete a model using the ZO Cards we've collected..

It was a surprise for us as his drawings were more of an optical illusion. Therefore, trying to complete a model based on them was a complete bombardment...!

He sure was a brilliantly mad illusionist artist.

The Last Appearance of SD Director...

Today marks the last day the SD Director will give us a lecture on Design in a deep interpretation.

Also, it also brought about many magnificent creations that sparked form all the previous lectures.

Here are the improved and the latest Ontographies created by my coursemates.

They sure looked better then the first time Ontography was introduced to us...!

A Very Short Wednesday....

In the morning today,

We had a brief lecture on 'Design' ...

There were examples along the way to further enhance the understanding,
such as the Museum in Spain, which was designed by Frank Gary...

In the second part of the day, it was another session of Design theory by Jeffery, the director of SD...

As you can see, I didn't shoot any pictures today...

Simply because the scene and environment is similar to that of the previous Design Studio days...

Also, I was too lazy...

Coz my eyes were -_-ZzZz ....

A Supposedly 'Short' Monday... ;P

On Sunday night, I was informed by a fellow coursemate to check the SAS timetable...

It turned out to be that the timetable indicated that Monday was just a 1 hour class...

So, I passed on the news via mass messaging on msn...

Clearly, everyone was surprised and began checking the timetable for themselves....

It was indeed a miracle to have a 1 hour class.... ;DD

However, the next day, when we went to class....

It was told that school was as usual...

The timetable was inaccurate....

It was such a letdown... -_-"

Hahahaa...!

In any case, we started with drawing class, focusing on the aspect of negative spaces and composition...

We drew an object, by shading the surrounding space, instead of outlining the object itself....

It was a cool excercise...!!

After lunch, was back to the Ontography art...

The Director of SD came over again to give us a lecture...

But this time, the lecture has a very deep meaning as it covers a relation between psychology and art itself....

Another 'chim' start for the week eh.... =PP

And as always, at one point of the lecture, my mind strayed and my eyes cught sight of a very interesting footwear worn by one of my coursemates....!

A Usual Yet Different Friday... ;D

This week's Friday was started off with a lecture on artists, with it's main focus on Jackson
Pollock.

From this mouthful lecture, I understood the different popular techniques used in painting.
Be it abstractly or normally, the trends in the painting years reflects alot on the artists portrayed.

Namely, they were Picasso and a few others with a weird name.

Soon after, it was an evaluation session on our Ontographies that we've started to work on since Monday.

Despite the randomness, abstractness and spontaneousness, many of the masterpieces were magnificent to look at no matter how the orientation was.

And most of all...

It was a CooL sight to see in the Studio...! ;D

After the evaluation, The 'Shifu' proceeded on to giving a lecture on philosophies and its relation to Ontographies and drawings.

It was very 'chim' and has a deep meaning. I pretended to understand eventhough I only managed to absorb about 50% of the whole thing... =P

Now, I'm still wondering though...

Outing to Lasalle....

Today was another outing of the second term.

This time, not to any museum or anywhere...

Instead it was to Lassalle.

Since I've never been there before,

I thought it'd look like any regular school.

Only that it is built specially for design courses.

However, when looked just from afar,

It had me struck with awe.

The whole concept of design and infrastructure of the school
is something I've never seen before.

It's exterior was abstract, and so was its interior.

CooL indeed...! ;D

Almost everything looked crooked...

Over there, we were introduced about the school's facilities and courses offered.

It was pretty similar to the course we had in Polytechnics only that it's much of a higher level.

Then, we went to visit the galleries and studios before we wrapped up the day at Lassalle...

A general overview, Lassalle seemed to be a cool school and I bet the work is far far much tedious then what we had done...

Back To School For Term 2 !! ;D

Finally...~

After a long 3 weeks of holidays and 'nothing-much-to-do' except homeworks,

We finally met again in the fateful studio of T521...

It was a happy swinging moment as we saw and caught up with each other... =))

In anyway, we still had to do work though...

Firstly in the morning, we had a welcome briefing and the overview forecast for the week.

Soon after perking up, we started resuming on our weekly drawing class.

It was exciting as we had to draw one half of an inverted room invertedly and to imagine the other half of it.

Though many of us struggled through to start drawing, we finally made it and commenced with the second part.

This time, we had to draw an inverted portrait of George Bush.

However, mine turned out to be like a 'Bush' instead of George Bush himself.

Not only me...

Many did the same too...!

We had a blast though...! =DD

In the second part of the day,

The Director of Design School dropped by our studio to teach us something himself.

It was called 'Ontography'...

Sounds weird and complicated...

Though that was how it turned out to be...

We were actually told to draw something in a manner that seemed dumb.

That was to draw without thinking and to place our face to as close as possible to the drawing paper. Also, the drawing process has to be slow.....

Apparently, this what Ontography is about...

'Interesting'...

Hahaa...! xD

It was so boring as everyone doodled so slowly.

Some even dozed off as a result.

This continued for an hour or so before the first pinning up was announced.

After some evaluation on the doodles,

We were then told to do a second drawing... =O

Soon after the doodling session, it was time to wrap up and go home...

Despite the boredom, I managed to acquire a take-away from the Ontography session...

'Sub-conciousness is hidden creativity...'

It may sound weird but it sure is logical... =P

Finally~ ! The Last Day of School For Term 1 ...! + Visit To National & Art Museum...

Today, marks the last day of term 1 ...!

Finally~, a long busy 7 weeks of school has come to an end.

It's time to relax and chill out for now, before more hell breaks loose after this vacation !!

Anyway, this morning, we went out for another excursion to the National Museum and Singapore Art Museum.

It was fun and exciting as we saw many art pieces and pleasant designs all around.

What I learn from all the drawings we drew and the things we saw today is that
museums do have lots of inspirations to get us started with.

Lastly, this will be my last post for the term.

A contiunation will occur when school reopens on 22 June 2008.

DID Festival !!

DID Festival was awesome...!

We went over to visit the Year 2 and 3's projects and explored the motives of their work.

It was very much different form our own projects as the Year 2 and 3's projects were more inclined towards construction that required some basic strutural technology...

Overall, I'm very impressed with them...

And most importantly, I'm proud of DID....!! ;D

Excursion to MINT Toy Museum ...

Today, we had the first excursion of the term.

After meeting up and rendezvous-ing with the rest, we walked over to Seah Street for the MINT Toy Museum.

Since it was my first time going there, I thought that the place looked rather ordinary.

Just like the other buildings around, only much smaller.

However, within it, things were different then expected.

The lobby was quite narrow, with a cafe at the basement.

On the upper stories of the museum, were shelves and rows of toys ranging from the 1800s all the way to the 1970s.

They were true vintage toys indeed.

Though some of them looked old and quite unattractive, they sure cost a bomb in the present market.

Most of the toys ranged between 3-digit sums to 5-digit sums altogether !!

Woah~...

Very impressive...!

No wonder the old ragged toys and posters were taken care of so delicately.

The $$ explains it all... ;D

This time, on Monday, we were all preparing for our DID Fest...

It was a busy and chaotic scene as all 5 DID classes worked hard to finish painting their submission boxes and hanging their ping pong balls.

Not forgetting the massive chandelier where we took our turns to paint.

Apart from that, we also set up our exhibition booths and touched up whatever necessary before the big event. ;D

A Slacky Busy Monday !

This week's Monday is far more slacky then last week's.

However, despite that, we still found ourselves busy.

For the routine drawing class, we finally got to draw human figures.

It was very interesting as I suck alot at drawing human forms.

From this excercise, I basically know how to produce decent drawings, by using techniques taught ny the lecturer.

As a result, the outcome was pleasant.

There are many who struggled through. And many drew beautifully too.

Then, it was time for the Russian Doll pre-submission.

Everyone got excited and started taking out their master pieces.

It was a scene full of colours as the dolls emerged slowly out from the bags.

The Last Rush...!

The relaxing period over the last few days was just 'Calm before the storm'.

Today, we were told to complete our Russian Dolls by next week...!

Which is like in a few days time.

But fortunately, we were all given some leeway, to just submit 2 out of 4 of the dolls on Monday.

Despite that, we still had to rush as we have 2 more projects still on hold, which is due next Friday.

So yeah...

Things Seem To Tie Down A Little Now.... =))

Term 1 is coming to an end very soon...!

Anyway, Today was quite similar to Monday.

Most of the time were spent planning, sketching and consulting for the 'Mini Me' project, also known as 'The Russian Doll'.

It was a slow moving day as everyone worked slowly in their respective areas.

Despite that, creativity was born too...!

Some might think it was time wasting.

But it sure helps alot as the consultation provides more ideas to many of us.

Then, it was Character Development.

This time it was different then the previous weeks' as it was a combined class with DXDIP in LT1A, for a presentation talk.

The talk was interesting over some areas, as it introduces us to the aspect of volunteerism in Singapore, and how we can contribute.

However, those lethargic ones couldn't help it and they surrendered..... '=_='

Slackiest Day So Far....

Today...

Was the most slackiest day so far.

The most active thing we did for the whole day was just to draw our arms and legs without looking at the paper.

It was supposed to co-ordinate our brain with our body parts, as a way to improve ur drawing.

The results were hilarious as many of us drew something that does not look like what it should be.

But before that, we pinned up our weekly homework which involves the shadings of objects.

It was really impressive at how some of us drew their drawings, eventhough all of us drew the same thing...

Next, we went over to visit the workshop.

This was the first time I visited a technical workshop since my secondary school days.
It was so much different in condition as it was air-conditioned, unlike those in our previous schools.

That's the best part of all...!

Then, we went back to the studio and continued slacking and planning for our Russian Doll project.

Plus...! Some interesting pictures that made me laugh till my stomach aches...!

CooL Flowing Short Friday....

Today~....

We started off with something more interesting....

- A lecture about TOYS !

It was really attention grabbing as all of us has gone through a period in our life, where toys were part of our everyday life.

Even now, toys have evolved more sophisticatedly and linger close to us almost all the time.

The lecture displayed many types of toys, especially soft toys and dolls, ranging from the soft ones to the harder ones made of plastic. Nostalgic fun facts about the toys (A Teddy Bear for example) really evoked the sensation of how current popular toys originate.

Then, the lecture took a dive into modern style toys. This was another part of the lecture that makes me think. Modern dolls and toys are far weirder than in the olden days. They looked uglier and scarier, yet they are rising in popularity...!

Smooth and Easy-Going Wednesday...

Well...

This was the best day of the week I had for Design Studio.

Due to the completion of all my ping pongs and permutation drawings, I was able to slack and loiter around the studio, while most of us were busy doing up their stuffs.

As I walked aroung taking photos, I noticed lots of interesting results of the ping pongs done by my studio-mates.

They were attractive to look at and was nicely done as well, despite the sacrifice of their sleep doing all of these.

And to proceed on with the day,

We were also told to improve on our permutated ideas on the wire structure.
So, we began sketching and planning with the lecturers, for a final draft before the actual construction.

We sure are creative bunch of people... For most of our designs were uniquely unique and abstractly beautiful, just by looking at the draft sketches...!

An Undesirable Start For Week 3.....!

Today was far more hectic and tedious than any other days.

Before the start of the lesson, we pinned up our previous week's homework.

It was a beatiful scene as most of us had drawn rather pleasantly.

For the morning drawing excercises, we had to hold transparent acrylic pieces between us and our friend, and draw his/her image through the plastic sheet.

For the first attempt, we had to draw the detailed features of the person, at a distance of 30cm.

This was quite interesting and less tedious to do. Also, the outcome of the drawing was generally nice too.

The next task was quite similar. Except that this time, we had to draw our friend over a further distance of about 2 metres, inclusive of the background.

This was the toughest part as the details were less clear and there were more things to include.

As a result, most standards for the second drawing were no closer to that of the first.

From this exercise, I learnt that drawing and tracing through something transparent is much easier then by looking at the object/person itself. Especially, when the distance is near.

Yeah...!

A Busy, Messy, Hectic Friday....

After getting the satisfactory thumbs up from the lecturer in relation to our 'emotions' homework, we went to proceed onto the next project.

We had to transfer all 20 'emotions' ideas from the paper and onto ping pong balls.

The purpose is to 3 Dimensionalise (3D) our drawings and evoke creative thinking.

After 2 long hours, I just managed to successfully finish painting 9 of the balls, and loads more to go...!

Despite the hassle, I believe it would produce graceful results, if all of us work hard into doing up the ping pong balls....!!

Mid - Day of Week Two ( Wednesday )....

It started out with a whacky-whacky day over at the studio...!

And later, we pinned up our ' Emotions' homework up onto the noticeboards for a short critic session.

However though, it was later realised that the results of our works were not satisfactory.

Hmm...

And so, we had to re-do and touch up on them.

And after some time, everything started to show a postive side. =)

Into The Second Week Now....

Today...

Was an exciting Monday (21 April 2008).

In the morning, we learned new drawing techniques by the lecturer, which includes shading, hatchings and using grid lines to assist in our drawings.

Then we proceeded to with our 'fine art' by drawing the fruit / vegetables we had brought, in 9 different views.

It was tough orientating the fruit's views. However, it was a good lesson learnt today.

Woah... It was really 'fine art' after all as most of us drew quite nicely and impressively....!

After lunch was another segment for the day.

It was show and tell, whereby we had to introduce our toys which we had brought along as well.

This was the climax of everything as we had fun listening to each of us talking about their toy.

And like the BrickBoy presentation, my confidence was relatively high...!

Also, I knew something as well...

Even the hunkiest guy in the class played with a pathetic toy...!

And muscles turned someone on.....

Hahahahaa...!

Then, we had a short 'self-evaluation' session.

We filled forms relating to ourselves.

Thereafter, we commenced to draw out our emotions, as stated on our self-evaluation form.

These were the results of what we think for an emotion.

Somehow, this helps to make us express something that is close to being inexpressable by drawing.

Impressive eh....

Some drew simply...

Some drew with full of emotions....

As for me, I drew abstractly.... ;D

Anyway, the last activity of the day was a little bit more practical.
Some of us had to move around.

That activity was table shifting...!

Some of us had to go around the studio and down to the first level in order to replace the existing tables with better ones.

Thanks to those who helped out, our studio-mates has had a nice stable table to work on now...! ;D

Yeah...! Last Day Of The Week...! =))

Hey there...

Today (18 Apr '08), marks the last day of week 1. (Lots of pictures here...!)

Generally, this whole week was an interesting one, thus making a good head-start for our poly life.

As for today, the short time we spent in the studio, was easy going as all we had to do was to bring our re-designed and re-constructed BrickBoy over for evaluation.

It was very exciting looking at the other BrickBoy creations my studio-mate has made. Most of them were colourful, weird and funny looking.

Before we were asked to do an individual presentation on our own BrickBoys, we were given time to touch up on our model and have a short break.

Then, comes the fun part, -The presentation.

The presentation was very appealing throughout as we listened to everyone's point of view and reasonings as to why they chose their particular BrickBoy character and design.

As for me, it was a good start as in the future, presentations after presentations will take place. This somehow, boosted my confidence to speak up more and formally.

Eventhough not many things were done today, the time spent was perfect as we learned many new things and concepts from the presentation, as well as the comments by the lecturers themselves.

I take all criticism on my project as something that would help to improve. So, it was something gained after all instead of being demoralised.

Another Day In School....

Today's morning lecture was quite similar to that on Monday. Only that, we spent a little shorter time over at the studio.

We made preparations and re-designed the image of our Brick Boy, and was later asked to re-construct it into a size twice as big as what we had made on Monday.

It was rather interesting and I finally re-designed my Brick Boy into a 'Brick-Stein' - Frankestein.

My First Day In Singapore Polytechnic Design School (DID)...

Erm... Hey there people...! Hidayat here writing his first ever blog. (Which he's not interested in...) But due to school work, there it is...! Haha... =P

Anyway, today (14 April 2008), Before lunch time, I (we) did some simple sketches and drawings of whatever we could find in the design studio, with some guidance by the lecturers.

This little activity is supposed to, kind of, open up our mind and be aware of the objects around us. And I drew something, which somewhat looks like a stapler. Which it is...!

It was fun drawing it, though it proved to be quite a tedious job to do. Especially where shadings and details are concerned.

Here are some of the snapshots I took of it. ;

It might not look fantastic, but I did put some effort to it. (And I got 2 Votes for it by the way... =P )

And you don't want to see my effortless drawing. Coz they sure do SucK...! Hehe...

And of course, I did learn something from the drawing. Which is, everything and anything will have a different view in perspectives, if looked upon differently.

Soon after lunch, we did model making...!

Basically, we had to construct a cuboid looking robot called 'BrickBoy', cut out from a piece of paper and glued together accordingly.

It was 'mind and finger tinggling' as I wasn't quite used to doing this kind of stuffs.

I had to copy and transfer the given template onto a drawing block and cut it out for construction. Precise and accurate measurements were important while I was doing it.

And after all, this new experience was well handled by me, and I managed to construct it on time...!

This activity teaches me to coordinate and analyse parts of the model before making decisions and executing the BrickBoy construction.
